David Sims

David is the thunder of Thunder and Lightning. He’s strong, motivating, and knows how to fire you up to hit a big lift. David’s main focus has always been helping his clients achieve their goals. Each session is tailored specifically to you.

David works with people who are looking to improve their fitness, lose fat, get stronger and feel better about themselves.

MEET DAVID

  • David understands how to connect with his clients, and ensure each person gets the best workouts and therefore the best results possible. He’s great at pushing you to the next level, and giving you the confidence to grow your abilities.

  • David has a keen eye for detail. His ability to pick up on technique allows him to provide attention to each athlete in a class, so that everyone gets individualized coaching. He understands how to connect with athletes whether it be giving a great cue for a high-skill Olympic lift or to give the class a little laugh through one of his jokes. You can ensure that each time you are trained by David, you’ll enjoy yourself and be pushed.

  • David trains in CrossTraining and also has fun doing ju-jitsu. He enjoys cooking (especially his famous taco recipe) with his beautiful wife, Teri-Lynn. They also love a good UFC party and hanging out with their cat, Zoey.

Teri-Lynn moffatt

Teri-Lynn is the lightning of Thunder and Lightning. She’s strong, fast, electric, and brings an exciting positive energy. With a background in competitive figure skating, soccer, golf, tennis, cross country running, and currently muay thai, jiu jitsu, and CrossFit. 

Working as a personal trainer since 2010, Teri-Lynn has helped a wide range of clients work on their fitness goals, whether it be overcoming an injury, increasing strength, improving endurance, or becoming more athletic. Teri-Lynn excels at motivating others.

Certified as a Precision Nutrition coach Teri-Lynn can help you incorporate healthy eating as part of your complete athletic success plan.

MEET TERI-LYNN

  • Working as a personal trainer since 2010, Teri-Lynn has helped a wide range of clients work on their fitness goals, whether it be overcoming an injury, increasing strength, improving endurance, or becoming more athletic. She specializes in expanding your CrossFit, Powerlifting, Olympic Lifting, and gymnastics skills. Teri-Lynn excels at coaching and motivating others, especially while leading group training programs.

    Teri-Lynn is certified through Precision Nutrition in nutrition coaching and can help you incorporate healthy eating as part of your complete athletic success plan.

  • When not training her clients or group coaching, you’ll still usually find Teri-Lynn in the gym doing CrossFit, Powerlifting, or gymnastics. Outside of the gym she loves watching UFC and training in MMA, specifically jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai. She has experience competing in Olympic Lifting, and competing in and coaching Powerlifting meets, including Provincials. More recently however, Teri-Lynn has been enjoying competing in jiu-jitsu tournaments. Teri-Lynn loves lifting heavy, but you will also often catch her upside down practicing handstands.

Casey Khan-Cudmore

Casey is a certified Personal Trainer and CrossFit coach. He has been in the fitness industry for 4 years, and has had the privilege of working with a variety of clients with diverse fitness goals. Originally from Essex, UK, Casey started his fitness journey from a young age training BJJ and Boxing with his old man (dad). Since then, he’s gone on to compete in IBJJF competitions (jujitsu), local CrossFit competitions and more recently, Hyrox competitions.


MEET CASEY

  • Casey’s training philosophy is centered around functional fitness, strength training, and maintaining a well rounded cardio base. He believes in tailoring each workout to the individual needs and goals of his clients. Casey’s approach involves a combination of resistance training, cardiovascular exercise, and mobility work to help his clients achieve their desired results.

    As a coach, Casey prioritizes building a strong relationship with his clients. He motivates and supports his clients by establishing open lines of communication and setting achievable goals. He believes in leading by example and working alongside his clients to push them to their limits. Casey’s ultimate goal is to help his clients become the best version of themselves.

  • Casey has extensive experience in building a solid engine, experience in Olympic weightlifting, and also in competition prep. He enjoys working with clients of all fitness levels and ages, from beginners to well seasoned athletes, and has seen great success in helping clients achieve their fitness goals.

  • Outside of the gym, Casey enjoys practicing yoga and participating in outdoor activities like hiking, snowboarding and cycling. He is also an avid traveler and enjoys experiencing new cultures and cuisines.

AngELA Sullivan

Angela recently moved to Vancouver from Ireland where she worked as both a physiotherapist and CrossFit coach. She has a masters in Strength and Conditioning as well as Population Health, is APPI certified in Therapeutic Pilates and has recently completed her Precision Nutrition coaching certification.

MEET ANGELA

  • Angela takes a health and function approach to exercise. With a background in physiotherapy she ensures movements and programs are tailored specifically to each individual client. You can expect to be coached through a variety of movements and workout types with Angela.

  • Angela has expertise in both pain and rehab as well as strength and conditioning. She also has a broad base of knowledge and experience in nutrition coaching.

  • Angela has always been involved in sport, starting as a competitive swimmer in grade school. She swam all throughout her high school and college career. She enjoys most water sports, in particular surfing. Angela has developed a passion for CrossFit over the last few years and began coaching very shortly after beginning, making it to the quarterfinals of the CrossFit Games this year.

ravtej singh

Ravtej is an International Student from India and is one of our Powerlifting coaches at Thunder and Lightning. He also coaches the Strength and Conditioning and the CardioBlast classes, and has been in the fitness industry for quite a few years with a Diploma in Personal Training. He is a competitive powerlifter himself, and therefore has a working knowledge and experience of Powerlifting meets.

MEET RAVTEJ

  • As a competitive Powerlifter, Ravtej uses the powerbuilding training principles, which is a combination of both bodybuilding and powerlifting. He focuses on building pure strength and muscle hypertrophy, because he believes that a bigger muscle has more potential to be stronger.

  • Other than Powerlifting, Ravtej also specializes in mobility training, and believes everyone should be able to move their bodies through their entire ranges of motion with ease. Ravtej has worked with people of all ages, and has also helped people come back stronger from nagging aches and pains.

  • Besides being passionate about powerlifting, Ravtej has also been a professional track athlete and a cyclist, and also loves playing soccer. He also has a YouTube channel and an Instagram channel where he promotes and posts content about fitness.

Carol Almeida

Carol Almeida is an experienced and dedicated Certified Personal Trainer who has been working in the fitness industry for over 20 years. Originally from Brazil, Carol now coaches in Canada. She holds a Master's in Sports Training, and a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education (equivalent to Kinesiology in Brazil), and she has logged thousands of hours of coaching and improving the lives of all types of individuals.

  • Carol's approach to fitness is rooted in the belief that everyone has the potential for greatness. She takes the time to get to know each client, their strengths and weaknesses, and their individual goals. She emphasizes the importance of self-improvement, a strong community, and a healthy lifestyle, using her extensive knowledge in biomechanics and resistance training to create customized plans that caters to each individual's needs. When it comes to helping her clients achieve their fitness goals, Carol's approach is highly personalized. She takes the time to get to know each client, their strengths and weaknesses, and their individual goals. She then uses her knowledge and expertise to develop a customized plan that takes into account their fitness level, schedule, and any limitations they may have. She helps her clients to set realistic and achievable goals and provides ongoing support and motivation to help them stay on track.

  • Item descriptionCarol's journey began with a love for improving people’s health and quality of life through physical activity, which led her to explore biomechanics and eventually earn a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education. After completing a post-secondary specialization in Sports Training, Carol launched her career as a personal trainer in 2006. In 2016, she discovered her second passion—CrossFit. Since then, Carol has worked with a diverse range of clients, from beginners to those suffering in pain, to seasoned athletes, helping them achieve impressive results in weight loss, strength training, and optimize health and performance.

RAY WATKINS

Raymond Watkins has been a lover of fitness from an early age. He competed at national level in swimming as a teenager, played rugby in his late teens, then fell in love with weight training. From his late teens to early twenties he primarily trained a bodybuilding split, in his early twenties to now he started a more athletic style training coupled with a love of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He has been a swimming instructor for many years which lead to finding his passion for group fitness and personal training.

MEET RAY

  • Raymond's approach to training is to find what motivates clients and develop a personal relationship with them to really find what lights that fire within.

    He believes a coach should efficiently plan and demonstrate all of the movements within each session and have a reason behind each movement pattern that is implemented in each session.

  • Ray specializes in strength and hypertrophy training along with more sports specific style programs.

CLIENT SUCCESS MANAGERS

Dan Osorio

Dan started his fitness journey back in January, 2020 when he graduated from university and began to train in Kickboxing, Brazilian Jiujitsu, Powerlifting, and Strength and Conditioning. Dan found a love for working out and decided to dedicate his new career to becoming a Personal Trainer and martial arts instructor, teaching others what he has learned and continues to learn in the field. Combining his love for movement, background in biomedical engineering, and overall enthusiasm for working out, Dan hopes he can become the best teacher possible and bring out the same enthusiasm for working out in others. You’ll see Dan around the gym helping out with members and ensuring you have the best experience possible while you’re here.

Shiori Kamitani

Shiori is a Personal Trainer as well as Client Success Manager, so you’ll see her coaching classes as well as bringing her positive, cheerful energy around the gym helping out. As a former Track and Field athlete with over 11 years of experience, Shiori understands how to handle challenges and work hard, and she always puts her full effort into everything to help out members. She’s always there to encourage everyone to do their best while enjoying the process. Shiori loves to lift weights, hike, play guitar, and watch Netflix too!

ABOUT OUR FOUNDERS

David Sims and Teri-Lynn Moffatt each have over a decade of professional experience as personal trainers, coaches and managers for group fitness programs. They have worked together for the last 10 years and partnered to build a successful group fitness program at a gym in downtown Vancouver.

During COVID David and Teri-Lynn pivoted their business to provide online, outdoor training, and group fitness classes and were able to expand their client base with their high standard of training and classes.

In the summer of 2022, they opened a small studio gym in Tinseltown and have now expanded their business to the next level with the opening of their group fitness location at Waterfront.


David studied Business Management, and prior to fitness worked as a realtor in Vancouver for several years.

Teri-Lynn has a BEd and BPhysEd and has competed at a high level in a variety of sports including powerlifting, Olympic Lifting, and jujitsu.
